If he truly were a prisoner of war it would be for a Military Tribunal to decide his fate. My problem is, what is the definition of prisoner of war? It seems to shift.Snow Crash wrote:So no Innocent Until Proven Guilty then guys? Or does due process go out the window when a brightly coloured bit of cloth is involved?

That's because it's supposed to shift.Egg wrote:If he truly were a prisoner of war it would be for a Military Tribunal to decide his fate. My problem is, what is the definition of prisoner of war? My problem with it exactly. And, it's a scary proposition. Things like this should be pinned down.Snow Crash wrote:That's because it's supposed to shift.Egg wrote:If he truly were a prisoner of war it would be for a Military Tribunal to decide his fate. Yeah but it won't be, because it's not the way things are supposed to work. I would like to see him given a chance to plead his case. But he's been built up as some kind of Bond Villain, so that even if he is found innocent of charges, he will still be guilty according to those who have bought into the War of Terror, and the feds will look like fucking idiots, and it will harm their popularity at home, which will never do.Egg wrote:My problem with it exactly. If there was due process...he would have been dead years ago.Snow Crash wrote:So no Innocent Until Proven Guilty then guys? Or does due process go out the window when a brightly coloured bit of cloth is involved?
And he can beat the rap in Federal Court.
This will not be allowed to happen.
The US is going to look bad no matter what, so fucking get it over with and move on the the next.
But there is no way this guy is going to embarrass the political elite by beating the rap....
It just will not be allowed to happen.

Why do you say he can beat the case, Mur?

I'm sorry, are you privy to some kind of damning evidence the rest of us - including those taking part in any possible future civillian trial - are not or something? If he is 100% guilty, then how can he realistically beat the charges?Mur wrote:If there was due process...he would have been dead years ago.

If that's the case, then who is to blame?Egg wrote:I'm guessing you mean because the of the torture, Mur?

In a civilian court because he was tortured and I doubt they read him his rights or anything of that nature - he'd be let go. Who's to blame? I'd say the government.Snow Crash wrote:If that's the case, then who is to blame?Egg wrote:I'm guessing you mean because the of the torture, Mur?
