Did the ship do a u-turn and proceed and crossed path of the the ship. This occurred in the morning hours when crew was asleep and boat was on autopiliot.
The above facts correct?

It's up in the air. My bet is the collision then the eventual u-turn.

I am probably "mistaken" but I would think there were a few conversation a bit more intense during world war 2.
Even the one that preceded the shoot down of Iran Air 655 was probably a bit more.

In movies captains say "brace for impact". Would of assumed some sort of collective denial.

A person inside the ship may not be able to see the ship positions to call it, I suppose.
Everyone should be listening for a look out to yell "Holy Shit".
