Cell phone is 30 years old today!

Post by Pam » Sun Apr 03, 2011 10:47 pm

On this day in 1973 -- on April 3 of that year -- a man did something no one had ever done before.

You may bless him for it or curse him for it. At this juncture, it hardly matters. The impact of what he did is so enormous that judging it now is almost beside the point.

The man's name was Martin Cooper. He was 44 at the time.

He made a cell phone call.

I would kill to get my old Nokia back right now. The new IDIOT one has about 50,000 functions and buttons and thingys I will NEVER EVER use for as long as I live, and doing a simple thing like setting the alarm clock is impossible.

Damn you to hell, Nokia. I am buying an alarm clock tomorrow. An old fashioned one.

Yeah, the last phone I bought I asked for the simplest one they had. I have a camera, I have an ipod. Things meant to simplify rarely do.
