Brave New World Most Complained About Book In America

Post by Egg » Thu Apr 14, 2011 1:41 am

Banned in Ireland when it first appeared in 1932, and removed from shelves and objected to ever since, Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World is still making waves today. The novel of a dystopian future was one of the most complained about books in America last year, with readers protesting over its sexually explicit scenes, “offensive” language and “insensitivity”.

What gets me most about this is "Sexually explicit scenes". Yeah, maybe in 1950. If I remember right they call women "positively hydraulic" or something of that nature. That's about it.

Huxley was a genius.

Currently reading one of his works- "The Perennial Philosophy".

Always wanted to read it, never got around to it. Let me know how it is, man.

He was part of the Fabian Society, you know.

Aside from the fact that it's amazingly badly written it's a great read.

Is it really? I felt that way about Atlas Shrugged, minus the great read part.

I'm on the last chapter right now.

The book has a lot of mention of sleeping around, but I don't think it was too graphic at all.

It's a good warning.

You should look up the Fabian society, LaR Sweet Grass Christina. He had an insider's perspective.
