I see what you mean now. Sorry.

Anyway, the cave allegory can fit in here, too.

I'm looking for an internet version of a tool the dzogchen use to bring about enlightenment where they strip away bits of themselves and ask after "am I still me?"

In other words, "Without my hair, am I still me? Without my love of baseball, am I still me?"

Jews always use the term 'Adonai' when encountering those four letters. It is forbidden to pronounce or attempt to pronounce YHVH.

I mean in every day talk, instead of saying Adonai. Or, did you mean in prayer?

There are 7 substitutes for the name God, each having a separate quality. Ha Shem literally means, "the name."

:D I know what it means, thanks ;)

I just meant, I thought we were supposed to use that name when referring to God in every day talk.

The orthodox and the Chasidim do use that term.

What is the reason that it is forbidden to pronounce YHVH?

(I don't mean do be disrespectful, I am just curious. I also apologize if it is a stupid question, I don't know much about this.)

I believe it has to do with the commandment not to take the name of God in vain.

You're not being disrespectful. At least, not to this pork eater. ;)
