If by 'morons' the Egg means 'know-nothings' no conscious observer could disagree. And you have to ask yourself, why would any human being be proud of his proactive ignorance? That's always been a great mystery to me.

The perception of less work.

You may have nailed it. Intellectual laziness. Thought is work. Belief without skepticism is credulity. Skepticism without imagination is debunkery. Both approaches are abject sloth.

We are all "proactively ignorant" of many things. I have no idea how to cook up a mess of meth....despite it appearing to be a major activity here in this state. That "ignorance" is one that is quite satisfying. I'm pretty sure there are many more subjects that fall within the "proactively ignorant" scope.

And it's a paradox to suggest someone could be "proud" of ignorance. By it's nature, true ignorance is manifest by the lack of awareness of its existence.

I think those who treat early schooling as a pain and waste of time while taking pride in that attitude might fit the bill.

Sloth is the 4th of the 7 Deadly Sins. St. Thomas proposed that it merits a special room in hell. To assume that it is not proactive is a bit self delusional- or maybe even a participation in it's dubious joys, MrPenny.

Thought is work. Belief without skepticism is credulity. Skepticism without imagination is debunkery. Both approaches are abject sloth.
