Does it always have to be the case that any discussion of freedom devolve into a series of anecdotes and pettings and unserious, sanctimonious nonsense? It's probably my own fault for not insisting on definition as a point of departure. If I were to start this thread over I'd begin with the definition proposed by Dr Joplin, "Freedom's just another word for nuthin left to lose." Even Sartre, who devoted his entire life and several long and complicated books to the enquiry, never put it better than those simple words.
