Given to range of UFO descriptions, it seems like:
1- it is due to a simulation and various forms of UFOs are thrown in for whatever reason
2- there is a large amount of life forms either running around or sending probes which accounts for the variety
3- most are probes from a single source and they change through time, much like our development phases. I would think this is the least likely.
4- signals in the human brain react and create some image (different process than normal perception) and multiple people can be affected in the same way at the same time. (not unique to the person)
