Re: Steal this book
I'm halfway through the book. What struck me about the first half was this searing nothingness that seemed to populate this person's personality.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for they will see God.
Under the shadow of thy wings, Jehovah.
Under the shadow of thy wings, Jehovah.

Re: Steal this book
In otherwords, the guy seemed in action a perfectly normal everyday fellow.
But in psychological terms, he seemed kind of dimly sociopathic.

Re: Steal this book
Thank you for this story. The most prominent feeling I have after reading was a disgust for the indifference's he had toward events in his life that ultimately lead him to prison. It wasn't so much the indifference he has during his mother's funeral (because death is natural at an old age) but key events in his control like marriage and agreeing with his friend to go along with a destructive plan. It all reminds me of the muck I see in media.
At the same time, the protagonist comes off as very normal and just "human". At times, his emotions may seem radical, but nothing appears to be premeditated. When his friend wanted to shoot the arab, he talked against it. Which makes me believe the series of emotionally charged events shaped his mind and catapulted the event that lead to his extraction from society.
One can write pages about this story.
