Jack Layton's last public words
Jack Layton's last public words
My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.
All my very best,
Jack Layton

Jack Layton, leader of our opposition in government, died this week from cancer after announcing in July that he was taking time off for treatment. On the day of his death, a letter written a few days before his death, was released. His final, public words concluded with the above words.
Thanks, Jack. You have left a beautiful legacy.

Sounds like a good guy, like most Canadians I've come into contact with.
Re: Jack Layton's last public words
Thanks Pana, I had not seen that letter, it is very heartwarming and surprising that even on his death bed, he wanted to speak to Canadians and that was his main focus. He was obviously a very unselfish man.
I have never voted NDP as that party goes too far one way, but a lot of what they believed important is important to me too. I just never could agree with everything they fought for.
There is never a happy medium in politics, they are too extreme in oppositions.
For that reason I have never truly followed it very closely. I always vote but never ever been supportive 100% of any party I have voted for.
If only there was one perfect solution for everyone.

Re: Jack Layton's last public words
There just might be. Listen to what Timothy had to say. Jack was saying something very much like it.
"But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God – having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them." (2 Timothy 3:1-5)

Many people have always been like that statement. Nothing new.

Same ol' shit, same ol' prescription. No doubt. Who listens?

I blame Jesus.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for they will see God.
Under the shadow of thy wings, Jehovah.

Re: Jack Layton's last public words
It was from a letter written by Paul to his disciple Timothy about 2000 years ago. And since the early Christians believed the end of time was at hand he's describing his own times. Sounds a hell of a lot like these times, eh?

I think that humanity's just so screwed up that every 50-100 years it looks like the end of days. HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
We're going through some real crap now though, boy! That's for sure.
