I don't buy into religion but there's still wisdom to be found there.
When the Hebrews were taken out of bondage by Moses, a lot of them started complaining and longing for the days in Egypt. All these people had to do was walk and everything else was provided for them. People seem to need comfort and reliability. Moreso, that seems to mean that they want things to stay the same no matter how crazy that may seem to be. People fear change.
